The 911 has evolved since 1964 and since 1998 no longer have the air cooled units now opting for water cooled engines

Each variant comes with different specifications i.e. Carrera 2 (2wd), Carrera 4 (4wd) GT3 and Turbo. These are the common models throughout the 911 family but other special editions do exist.

The 1963–1989 Porsche 911 classic with air-cooled engines was designed by Ferdinand Porsche in as early as 1959 as a replacement for the beautiful Porsche 356, but the 911 didn’t make its first appearance until 1963 at the motor show in Frankfurt then went on sale in 1965 for $6.5k

Porsche ceased to produce the 356 in 1965 and was replaced by the 912 keeping the 356 engine but with 911 looks. Early 911’s had a flat-6 boxer engine producing 128 bhp although similar as the rear, air-cooled 356, the engine was 2litre compared with the 356's 1.6 unit. The 4 or 5 speed gearbox and 2plus2 layout meaning 2 small seats in the rear.
In 1966 Porsche increased the potency of the 911 to 158bhp and called it the 911S, also wearing the famous Fuchs alloys.
A year later in 1967 saw another first for Porsche when they introduced the 911 ‘targa’ as they tried to pre-empt a U.S ban on convertibles, the removable roof section,
