As the world slipped into recession the four wheel drive Carrera 4 was launched with an electric rear spoiler that raised at high speed, keeping the recognisable shape of the famous 911. The engine was larger using a 3.6 litre and the usual 2wd version coming later then in 1990 the 964 Turbo with a 3.3 engine hit the showrooms later becoming a 3.6 unit.
1992 saw the return of Porsche's limited-edition RS model, The RS 3.8 of 1993 had Turbo body.
