Porsche 996
1998-2004 Porsche 996

In 1998 the motoring world was almost shocked when Porsche laid to rest the 34 year old air-cooled power plant and turned to a 3.4 water cooled which was later increased to a 3.6 some 4 years later.
Along with a new engine came a much more sleek design and with 12 versions of the 996 which included the Carrera 2, 4, 4s, GT2, Gt3 and even a 40th Anniversary.
The 996 Turbo was similar to the 993 Turbo with 4wd and twin turbo's and the different styling to the Carreras included different lights, fixed rear spoiler, large front and hind intakes. Also in the 996 range was the Turbo S and the Turbo S convertible.
99-04 saw a hard core light weight 996 GT3 really for the die hard enthusiast with thinner windows, no rear seats, pin sharp steering and a 360bhp non-turbo 3.6
