Porsche 911 GT3 R

Porsche 911 GT3-R

Porsche 911 GT3-R

Porsche 911 GT3-R racer is exposed at the Autosport show.

Designed to FIA GT3 regulations, the GT3 R is intended, as Porsche coyly puts it, to be "appropriate for the ambitious amateur racing driver rather than purely experienced professionals".

The stripped out racer after all has to have some tech and the rear-engined 480bhp "R" has traction control, anti-lock brakes, automatic throttle blip function to make the downshifts extra special.

The GT3 R is based on the 911 GT3 Cup used for the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup one-make series, but has an engine enlarged from 3800cc to 4000cc.

Porsche announced its plans for the GT3 R back in November and, despite a base price of $400,000 plus taxes and Vat, there's been plenty of interest.

"Since we announced our intention to launch the 911 GT3 R, demand has been huge," says Uwe Brettel, head of motorsport sales. "The number of GT3 R vehicles we had planned for 2010 is almost sold out."

2010 GT3

2010 GT3

2010 GT3

The 2010 GT3 brings some significant changes over the previous GT3, but no direct injection  found on most other new Porsche models.

The powerplant in the 911 GT3 is up .2 litres to 3.8 litres, and produces 435 bhp, a jump of 20 horses over the outgoing model.

This motor amounts to a naturally aspirated and modified version of the powerplant in the 911 Turbo and GT2, distinct from the boxers now found in other current 911 models.

Now included for the first time is the Porsche Stability Management, which can be completely disabled in the hands of a professional driver but will probably save many a driver with the chips for a 2009 911 GT3 without necessarily carrying the skills to take a rear-engined supercar to its limits.

Stability and traction control systems can also be disabled seperately, giving a discerning driver the ability to only employ the nannies he or she needs for a specific situation.

The low-slung front end, featuring a slew of minor changes to the lip spoiler and lower dams, will lift upon driver command by a full inch for use on bad roads or over bumps.

In the rear, the 911 GT3 gets new air outlets tastefully integrated into the rear splitter. The rear spoiler is new as well, as are the dual outlet center-mounted exhaust tips similar to those on the new Cayman.

The 2010 GT3 is perhaps the most pure of Porsches on the road. Release date in the States is this October at a price of $112,200. A relative bargain when considering the competition!

Panamera S

In Porsche's own words "We have absolutely no experience when it comes to building large, heavy saloons."

The brief did not specify a saloon. Nor did it specify a four-seater, or even all-wheel drive. It specified a Porsche! Sportscar technology for four.

The new Panamera.

losing its association with the mundane and the premium class is no longer home to narrow thinking. Luxury needn’t mean cumbersome – it can mean dynamic instead. This is Porsches definition of luxury. they call it ‘dynamic luxury’ – because sportiness is more important to Porsche than anything else. It’s about a car that you would want to drive, as well as be driven in. That’s why they developed the new Panamera. It’s that simple. And that’s actually nothing new for Porsche. It’s not about coupés, nor is it even about saloons. After all, in the sporty luxury saloon and coupé segments, driving, as we understand it, now seems to mean something else.

What can a car manufacturer with such a small market share worldwide have to say about luxury saloons? Good question. It’s true that life sometimes has to be taken very seriously, but not necessarily everywhere and all of the time. It’s good to lighten up and relax a little. Look at things in an original way. Think differently. Not everyone who achieves success should feel bound by convention. A few reject the norms and constraints of society and view things from a new perspective: open, surprising, agile and inquisitive. Consequently, a refreshing change is happening within the automotive luxury and premium classes.

911 GT3 RS

The RS version of the 997 GT3 is a homologated model for use in a range of racing series.

More freely revving thanks to a close-ratio six-speed transmission with a single-mass flywheel,

911 GT3 RS can accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.0 seconds while reaching 200 km/h (124 mph) in 13.3 seconds and go on to a Maximum speed is 193 mph.

By using a carbon fiber wing, a plastic engine cover, and a lightweight rear window. The RS is 44 lb lighter than the GT3 and weighs 3,031 lb. The GT3 RS has a power to weight ratio of 300 bhp (220 kW) per tonne.

The 2010 911 GT3 RS had an extra 35 PS from a 3800 cc flat-six, outputting up to 450 PS.

worldcarfans: Designed to be the ultimate rear-wheel drive sports car, the RS features a modified version of the GT3's 3.8-liter boxer engine. Peak output climbs to 450 hp, which is 15 hp more than the standard GT3.

Backed up by a short-throw six-speed manual transmission, the new 911 GT3 RS should accelerate from 0-100 km/h in four seconds, before hitting a top speed in excess of 314 km/h (195 mph).
